O2ptima CCR

Unparalleled reliability and functionality in a streamlined package.

First produced in late 2005, the O2ptima CCR has been a leader in the rebreather market for almost two decades. The O2ptima features a rear-mounted counterlung design that greatly reduces the diver’s work of breathing. The breathing loop was kept as short as possible by utilizing a horizontally-mounted scrubber canister positioned behind the diver’s head. This also contributes to maintaining the lowest possible work of breathing, which increases diver comfort and reduces fatigue. Mounting the scrubber canister at the highest point of the loop has the additional advantage of reducing the likelihood of water entering the scrubber. This, combined with the use of the ExtendAir CO2 Absorbent Cartridge, greatly reduces the likelihood of a painful “caustic cocktail.” These features are the reason why the O2ptima CCR has been used for cutting edge exploration and world class expeditions all over the globe for years.

The design parameters for the O2ptima CCR were simple and included:

  • Keep the breathing loop as short as possible.
  • Use state-of-the-art electronics.
  • Be fully compatible with the ExtendAir CO2 Absorbent Cartridge.

All of these parameters were achieved in a rugged and durable package with the smallest profile possible.

Dive Rite has committed to ensuring that it is one of the most reliable, capable, and high performing rebreathers on the market. The O2ptima design continues to evolve as units are tested, refinements are made, and new technology becomes available. We are certain that this unit will provide you with many unforgettable hours exploring your underwater world.

The hose lengths of the O2ptima CCR breathing loop are some of the shortest in the industry thanks to the location of the behind-the-head scrubber canister. 15 inch (38 cm) loop hoses come standard with 12 inch (30 cm) available for an improved fit on smaller divers. The hose diameter and lengths have been specifically chosen to provide the best balance of comfort and low work of breathing.

The O2ptima uses a horizontal scrubber positioned behind the diver’s head. This design greatly reduces the length of the breathing loop compared to other rebreathers on the market. The reduced length results from gas not having to be pushed down a diver’s back and returned over their shoulder with every breath. The shortened breathing loop also means the O2ptima can use smaller, more flexible hoses.

The O2ptima uses two detachable, backmounted counterlungs with 6.5 liters of total loop volume. This choice of position keeps them as close as possible to the diver’s lung centroid. This design provides for incredibly low work of breathing in a variety of diver orientations. There is an internal water trap located at the bottom of the exhalation counterlung, which makes dewatering the loop easy. Cleaning is also made easy with zippers on each counterlung.

The O2ptima utilizes a hard-shell Kydex cover to protect its canister, hoses, and cylinders from the hazards of overhead environments. This cover keeps hoses and cables tucked away and eliminates the peaks and valleys present in most rebreathers that can become snag points in wrecks or caves. The O2ptima with its cover is thinner, shorter, and weighs less than a set of double 80s.

The O2ptima comes with a hybrid, lightweight stand that combines stability and functionality. The stainless steel backplate contours with the diver’s back, similar to a set of doubles. The canister mounts on the top and the cylinders mount vertically beneath the canister to give the O2ptima the narrowest profile possible.

To further streamline the O2ptima, Divesoft’s BOV + ADV + MAVs (Bail Out Valve with Automatic Diluent Valve and Manual Add Valves) combination is used. This all-in-one combo eliminates the need for excess hoses and additional clutter on the diver’s chest. The ADV function can be turned off mid-dive with a simple turn of the service knob. Oxygen and diluent MAVs are conveniently located on either side of the mouthpiece, so the diver can always find them. When the service knob is in the vertical position, the loop is closed and the diver is on open circuit.
